David committed adultery with Bathsheba and murdered her husband Uriah, yet he is still highly regarded in scripture. Contrast that with Saul, whose two major sins are that he didn’t wait on Samuel to make a sacrifice and he didn’t completely wipe out the Amalekites…yet he is portrayed in a negative light in scripture. Why the difference? The difference is that when confronted with their disobedience to God, Saul made excuses and David repented.
